P0410 – Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction

What does the P0410 code mean?

The code P0410 is a generic OBD-II code showing the engine control module (ECM) found an O2 sensor that’s detecting an abnormal increase of oxygen levels in the exhaust. This happens when the test air injector is turned on. 

Air pumps are responsible for injecting oxygen to the exhaust in order to lower emissions. This could indicate that one-way valves have failed or become worn, which can allow water from the exhaust to return into the air pump. It can also freeze if water gets into the system from outside. If it is frozen, the pump won’t be able to turn on when commanded, causing an overload to the system.
