- Combusted Oil – If the oil is overfilled it will cause higher crankcase pressure resulting in oil being pushed into the combustion chambers resulting in blue smoke from the exhaust.
- Spark plug fouling – When the oil gets into the combustion chamber, it will cause a thin layer of oil on the spark plugs. The oil will foul the spark plugs and cause misfiring.
- Gaskets and seals that fail – Overfilled engine oil will cause higher pressure in the crankcase as we discussed earlier. A crankcase with higher pressure can cause failure of gaskets and seals. If you see more oil leaking than normal, this could indicate that the oil is too full.

How do you remove engine oil?
Once you have determined that your engine has excess oil, it's time to remove the oil. The first is the easiest and least messy. Traditional and messy, the second is an alternative. A drive socket wrench is required and a small plastic oil pan. Then raise the car up to locate the plug. You can place the oil pan underneath the plug to let the oil run. Don’t loosen the plug too much and remove only a certain amount. To ensure that the oil is correct, check again with the dipstick.
