Chevy Venture P0449: Vent Valve Solenoid – Circuit Malfunction

This is a common problem with the Chevy Venture Is the Code P0449. Refers to the number given when you connect it to an OBD2 scanner. This code P0449 refers to the evaporative emissions controller (EVAP). This code is often found with or related to P0420,P0446 and, very frequently, P0455.

Chevy Venture P0449 Definition

The universal OBDII code P0449 can be used to diagnose trouble codes. It means that no matter what make or model vehicle it is, P0449 will be the same code (Venture, or not), as long as the code was produced after 1996.

If P0449 is displayed, it means that either the valve or solenoid circuit controlling the evaporation system are not working correctly. Depending on your vehicle's model, the EVAP cycle fuel vapor out of the tank into an intake manifold. If the system fails to function properly, fuel vapor will not be removed.

ECM (Engine Control module) has identified a problem in the circuit that controls the vent which releases fuel vapor. Soon, the service engine will follow this up.

• Wiring and Fuse Problems– If the wiring going to the valve has been compromise, it’ll lead to the P0449.
• Fuel Tank Sending Unit– It is possible for the gasket that attaches the fuel sending unit to the gas tank to go bad. This could reduce the pressure in your tank and cause you to lose the code. This is not the right place to begin.
• Fuel Filler Neck– There is often a gasket where the fuel filler neck connects with the gas tank. It is possible for this gasket to dry, particularly if vehicles spend a lot of time in dry environments. When it dries out, the fuel tank can’t hold pressure anymore, it may erroneously throw P0449.

To diagnose the problem with your Chevy Venture's P0449, a mechanic will have a variety of tools at his/her disposal. The most commonly used methods to diagnose this code are:
