Chevy S10 P0410: Secondary Air Injection System → Malfunction

P0410 it is an OBDII general trouble code.  It is the same meaning as the Chevy S10 It will work as any other vehicle.  This is the warning sign that your secondary air injection system is not working properly.

P0410: Secondary Air Injection System → Malfunction

Secondary air injection injects air into exhaust to reduce emissions.  A failure of this pump, or the one-way check valve is most likely to cause P0410. However, there are many other possible reasons why P0410 is being thrown.

P0410 Symptoms:  Chevy S10

The only sign of P0410 within the S10 will be the light coming on in the engine service soon.  The bad pump may be heard trying to turn on (e.g., a squealing washer or empty wiper).  You may experience some hesitation in acceleration if it happens very rarely.

S10 P0410 Causes

Typically there are three components to an AIR system.  The pump, the hoses and the one-way check valve are all important components of an AIR system.  It is possible to inspect the fuse for all of these electronic controls.

Here’s a good YouTube video from Mark Jenkins on diagnosing this code:

One Way Valve Check

One-way check valve failure is the most frequent cause of P0410.  It allows water into the pump when it fails.  In winter, this moisture may freeze.

The fuse may be blown if frozen water freezes up on the pump.  The fuse can be found under your vehicle's hood.  That’s a great place to start looking.   You can see in a matter of seconds if the fuse is blown.

Air Pump

This is most commonly caused by P0410.  These are Very affordable.  P0410 is thrown if the ECU refuses to give instruction.

Conclusion

Chevy S10 P0410 does not seem to be likely to cause the vehicle's breakdown and only causes the check engine lights.  That’s because the pump is part of the emissions system and not the engine itself.  Any time the check engine light comes on, it’s a good idea to service it as soon possible though.
